Description

Protac MyBaSe® is a sensory-stimulating air mattress, that provides a sense of security for children and adults who may experience sensory disorders. The base has an active side (for balance training) and a stable side (for relaxation and rest). This makes it adaptable to the user’s individual needs and means that senses are stimulated when walking, crawling, rolling or lying.

As with other Protac® products, stimulation is provided by the inclusion of loose balls, which are housed within four compartments in the mattress. These balls ensure that the body is supported, enveloped and stimulated as the user sinks into the mattress.

The Protac MyBasSe® includes an air compressor for rapid inflation and has handles for easy moving or flipping of the mattress.

Ideal for people with ADHD, balance problems and sensory difficulties, the mattress is suitable for use in a variety of settings such as nurseries, schools, sensory rooms and private homes. Protac MyBaSe®:

  • Improves balance and coordination through repeated use
  • Increases body awareness helping the user to relax
  • Improves learning through increased concentration and focus

The removable cover is machine washable, and the air mattress can be cleaned with a damp cloth. An incontinence cover can be purchased separately, and the mattress works well when combined with Protac Ball Blanket® or Protac SensCircle®.

Recommended by professionals

Protac MyBaSe® is used by professionals and therapists in sensory integration rooms, during therapy and in treatment rooms. It has been found to have a positive impact on sensory stimulation and motor training, as it challenges the sense of balance when the user walks, crawls or rolls on the mattress.

Cases

9-year-old girl with severe brain damage

"The girl clearly shows expressions of joy when the staff ask if she wants to get down onto the Protac MyBaSe® mattress. She sits in a wheelchair all day long. When she lies on the mattress, she can make it move herself, with small movements, and she makes more happy sounds, chatters and smiles. She rests well and enjoys lying without needing to wear her back brace."

Experiences from Snoezelen house

An Occupational Therapist says: "I use the Protac MyBaSe® mattress on the stable side, where the user can sink deep into the balls and just float on the mattress. Mostly it is used with a projector/film and some calm music. I find that the user completely relaxes. Those who have tried it before often seek it out as the first thing when they come back. One user stopped her continual flow of speech as soon as she got down in the mattress. She typically chatters non-stop; I interpret her response as a sign of feeling safer. The therapists use it on the stable side and often in combination with the Protac Ball Blanket®. A woman with anxiety and brain injury needed help to calm herself, and Protac MyBaSe® was the only place where we could help her relax and get in physical contact with herself without having to constantly focus on her anxiety.
