Smirthwaite is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Harvey as Head of Clinical and Business Development, strengthening the company’s commitment to clinically led innovation, collaboration and growth.
Richard is a qualified Occupational Therapist with a postgraduate qualification in Postural Management for People with Complex Disabilities and extensive experience within wheelchair services. He brings a deep passion for supporting children and adults with profound and complex disabilities to achieve their individual goals, improve comfort, reduce pain and enable meaningful participation to enhance overall wellbeing.
With several years’ experience in the NHS, Richard has worked across mental health, acute trauma and paediatrics before specialising in postural management and adaptive equipment. He has since held a range of senior roles including Product Advisor, National Clinical Trainer Manager and Business Development Manager, combining strong clinical expertise with commercial insight.
Throughout his career, Richard has been instrumental in developing bespoke postural management training, authoring clinical articles, producing webinars, and creating new and enhanced services that promote products in innovative and engaging ways. His work has consistently focused on driving customer engagement while ensuring clinical integrity remains at the heart of product and service development.

In his new role at Smirthwaite, Richard will lead clinical strategy and business development, working closely with families, therapists and professionals to ensure Smirthwaite’s products and services continue to meet real-world needs and deliver meaningful outcomes.
Based in London, Richard lives with his partner and enjoys travelling, experimenting in the kitchen, health and fitness, and competitive badminton – despite what he describes as his “ageing body”. He is also a proud supporter of Wrexham AFC, otherwise known as “Disney FC”.
Richard’s appointment marks an exciting step forward for Smirthwaite as the company continues to invest in expertise, innovation and collaboration to support children and families worldwide.
